Mwingi: Elephants Continue to wreak havoc

Marauding elephants have continued to wreak havoc in Mwingi Central of Kitui County by trampling over a man from Katitika village.

Confirming the incident Kenya Wildlife Service Officer from Mwingi Benjamin Muli said that the man was trampled upon by an elephant and was currently receiving treatment at Mwingi Level 4 Hospital.

Benjamin revealed that the elephants were two and officers from the KWS are looking for them to ensure that they cage them so they do not cause any more harm.

“I was called by the chief of Waita location because of two elephants that were seen around his area. I confirmed that even one had injured a man and was receiving treatment at Mwingi Level 4,” said the KWS Officer.

“We are on the ground trying to ensure that we hold the elephants so they can stop causing havoc in the area,” he added.

He called on residents to be on the lookout and ensure that they are careful and when they see the elephants they make a call immediately to the service.

The elephants are said to be coming from Tsavo East National Park and they have also been seen in Mutha and Mutomo areas in Kitui South Sub-county.
