Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has urged the Kamba community to unite and rally behind Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka as the preferred presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during at Thinu, Kathiani Sub-county, Wavinya said it was time for the community to speak with one voice and give Kalonzo their full backing, confirming that the opposition had already settled on him as its flag bearer in 2027.
“We have already consulted and held several meetings, and I can confidently tell you that Kalonzo will be the opposition flag bearer in the coming elections. It would be a strong statement if, as the Kamba community, we stood together in unity and gave him our total support,” she said.
The governor emphasized that a united Kamba front would strengthen the community’s political bargaining power and ensure that its interests are prioritized at the national level.
She called on local leaders to put aside political differences and focus on uplifting the region’s social and economic status.
“It is time for us to stop fighting each other and unite for the sake of our people. When we are divided, others take advantage of us. But when we are together, we become stronger and can negotiate for development and better opportunities for our people,” she added.
Wavinya also took aim at the national government, accusing it of delaying the release of county funds—a move she said had disrupted operations in devolved units.
She noted that the delayed disbursement had led to late payment of county staff salaries and stalled key development projects.
“It is unfortunate that county governments continue to suffer because of delayed funds. This time round, our staff salaries were delayed not because of poor management at the county level, but because the national government delayed the money meant for counties. Whenever funds are released on time, we pay our workers without delay and even service delivery is efficient,” said the governor.
Governor Wavinya reaffirmed her commitment to improving service delivery in Machakos County, vowing to continue advocating for timely funding and more development projects.
“We are working hard to ensure that Machakos continues to progress. Despite the challenges, we will not relent in our efforts to serve the people faithfully,” she concluded.
