Maima Promises to Support Kasikeu after crying on camera

Benga artist Alphonse Kioko alias Maima, the leader of Kithunga Raha Band, has stepped in to assist his former band member, Kitonga Kasikeu, who recently opened up about his financial struggles and fading music career.

Maima, upon learning about Kasikeu’s plight, has pledged to meet with him and discuss possible solutions.

He noted that although the artist has not reached out to him to ask for help he cannot sit and watch as he wallows in problems.

While financial constraints have been cited as the main challenge, Maima believes there could be deeper underlying issues, including the need for guidance.

“I will sit down with him and understand the root cause of his struggles. Sometimes it’s not just about money—advice and direction are just as important,” Maima said.

Kasikeu, a talented guitarist and singer, recently revealed that despite winning Ksh 150,000 at the Guitar Olympics in January 2024, he has been unable to sustain himself. His last performance was on December 25, 2024; by August, he could no longer afford rent in Nairobi.

“People expect a good song and a high-quality video, but I simply can’t afford it. What can I do?” he lamented, breaking down in tears.

With 63 unrecorded songs, Kasikeu remains hopeful that he can reclaim his place in the music industry with the right support.

Maima’s intervention could be the turning point for the struggling artist, and fans are eagerly waiting to see how this reunion unfolds.
