Kitui County Assembly Speaker Kelvin Kinengo Katisya has accused the Wiper Democratic Movement Party of harassment and disrespect, following reports that the party is planning to expel him for meeting the President at State House.
Speaking in an interview with a local TV station, the Speaker said Wiper’s actions were misguided and based on faulty legal advice.
“The party’s lawyer has misled them. They believe that if I’m removed from the party, I automatically stop being the speaker. That is false,” he stated.
Katisya emphasized that attending a State House meeting was not a political act but part of his duty as a state officer. “State House is a government office, not a party office,” he said, dismissing the party’s show cause letter as baseless.

He further accused the Wiper Party of undermining his leadership, revealing that he and Machakos Speaker Ann Kiusya were removed from Wiper’s NEC WhatsApp group. He also claimed Wiper did not support his election as Speaker, and he only won despite the party backing his opponent.
“I joined Wiper in 2016 and took a KSh 100,000 loan to become a life member. No one can chase me out. I’ll leave when I want,” said Katisya, demanding a formal apology from the party for what he termed as “ongoing disrespect” to him and other Kitui leaders.
He noted he skipped the recent Tseikuru Declaration meeting led by Kalonzo Musyoka because he was not invited and claimed allied MCAs were embarrassed and chased away.
“They planned to humiliate me, but I avoided it. I come from the same area as the party leader, and it would have been shameful,” he added.
Katisya insisted he remains constitutionally protected in his position and will not be intimidated.
