Justina Syokau Declares Bid for Woman Representative Seat

Popular gospel star Justina Syokau, also known as Madam Twendi Twendi, has officially declared her intention to contest for the Machakos County Woman Representative seat in the 2027 general elections.

Announcing her bid via a social media post and a video clip shared on her Facebook page, Syokau revealed that she will vie for the position under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party banner.

Syokau said her decision is driven by a desire to serve the people of Machakos, empower women and youth, and champion development across the county. Highlighting the need for greater progress in the Ukambani region, she emphasized that UDA has spearheaded development initiatives and called on the community to support the party for continued growth.

“My people of Machakos, are you ready? I am in the UDA Party, led by our President William Samoei Ruto. This party brings development. It’s time for the Kamba community to rise from darkness,” Syokau said.

The gospel star further pointed out that Ukambani has historically been left behind in development due to leadership selections based on party loyalty rather than performance.

“In Ukambani, we have missed out on development because people are chosen based on the party, not because of the work they do. It is time for the Kamba people to elect leaders who will actually work for them and bring development,” she added.

Syokau pledged that if elected, she would focus on improving governance, creating opportunities, and ensuring that the voices of women and youth in Machakos are heard.

“If you elect me as Woman Representative for Machakos County, I will deliver results for you,” she assured her supporters.

Her move into politics adds her to a growing list of artists entering public service. Other Ukambani musicians who have declared their political ambitions include Jackson Mutinda Masekete, vying for Muvuuti/Kiima Kimwe ward in Machakos County, and Stephen Kasolo, seeking a first term in Mulango ward, Kitui County.

Syokau, however, will face stiff competition from established politicians and other aspirants, including Rejoice Mutheu Mwambia and Hon. Wakili Syokau Muinde, all aiming to unseat the current Woman Representative, Hon. Joyce Kamene Kasimbi.
