Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry CS Adan Duale and Minority Leader in National Assembly Junet Mohamed have told off Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka a day after he declared himself the official opposition leader.
Speaking while accompanying President William Ruto on his tour of Nyanza, Duale said Kalonzo does not even have 20 MPs and does not qualify to lead the opposition.
“Article 108 of the Kenyan constitution says the government spokesman of the government in the National Assembly is Kimani Ichungwa and the opposition is Junet Mohammed. If you are somewhere else saying Baba has gone to AU and you are now the leader of the opposition and your MPs are not even 20, No…It’s like, in 2008, government and opposition have united so that we have one united government.” Duale said.
Junet Mohammed said that he is the official leader of the opposition as the constitution does not recognize another leader apart from the minority leader.
“I’ve seen our colleagues in Azimio saying that ODM is in government and that they are now minority leaders. I have a bill in parliament with Kimani Ichungwa to bring the opposition leader, currently, the constitution does not talk about that.” Junet said.
“Someone should not give themselves a job which is not there, let’s first create that position. Right now I am the leader of the opposition leading the minority in parliament. You can’t take the position God has given me. That is my job. Those in opposition talk to me I’m ready and even have a new suit.” He added.
