Duale speaks on his beef with Kalonzo and Kitui leaders

Environment Cabinet Secretary nominee Aden Duale has spoken about his differences with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Kitui leaders.

While appearing before the Appointments committee for vetting, Kathiani MP Robert Mbui read out a question to Duale from a Kitui resident on the camel herders, in response the nominee hit out at Kitui and Machakos leaders.

“I would like to hear from the nominee how Machakos and Kitui leaders are picking on him, I’m a leader from Machakos and I’m just reading a question.” Kathiani MP Robert Mbui said.

Duale in response accused Kalonzo and Kitui leaders of saying he was behind the conflict of camel herders and locals in Kitui.

“He has asked a very good question but I want to give evidence, one of the times was when the Wiper leader lost his father, I went with President Uhuru. Starting from the Wiper leader and all the other leaders of that region, I can provide the clip, they have mentioned to me that I’m the cause of the conflict in Kitui in my presence.” Duale said.

“I had told President Uhuru then before we left that that would happen but he said let us go. He never replied to the claims by the leaders. It is in the public domain the leaders from the Kitui Senator, the leadership,…I will find another alternative to deal with the matter.” Duale added as Moses Wetangula cut him off.

Duale further withdrew the remarks after Deputy Minority leader Robert Mbui piled pressure on him noting he has nothing personal against Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

When Duale was appointed as Cabinet Secretary in 2022, several Kitui leaders led by Senator Kiio mounted opposition on his nomination. Kiio then said that most of the camels in the area belong to Duale after he confessed that he owns 232 camels in Kitui during his vetting.
