The National Assembly Tourism Committee wants President William Ruto to fire Tourism CS Peninah Malonza.
The committee told the media that Malonza has intentionally overlooked Parliamentary budgetary business and instead, chose to go on a vacation in Jamaica.
“Actually she has turned out to be a Tourist herself, instead of working hard to bring tourists and foreign currency to the country. We are dealing with a touristic Cabinet Secretary,” said the committee’s chairman Kareke Mbiuki.
Mbiuki explained that on 8th February they had invited Malonza to discuss the 2022/2023 supplementary budget in the Ministry.
“Unfortunately she never wrote to the parliament explaining herself. She won’t even be able to produce a genuine excuse that she was attending a more critical function which is more important than prosecuting the sector budget to the committee,” Mbiuki said.
He disclosed that the Ministry of Tourism has suffered huge budget cuts and Malonza should have appeared and explained to the members of the committee.
“In the meeting, we could have come up with a report that we would have used when we meet with the budget committee. Out of our own consultation we were forced to adjourn the meeting until parliament receives communication from the cabinet secretary, She is not serious about her post,” noted Mbiuki.
His sentiments were echoed by Mbeere North member of parliament Geoffrey Ruku who requested for the post to be given to someone else serious about the job.
“If the CS cannot take her work seriously we believe there are other leaders who are competent and politically aligned who can do a better job,” Ruku said.
