Outrage in Matuu as Family Demands Justice for Son Killed in Gen Z Protests

The family of William Musyimi Mutevu, a 21-year-old man who was shot and killed during the Gen Z protests in Matuu, Yatta Sub-county of Machakos County, is crying out for justice.

Musyimi succumbed to gunshot wounds at Matuu Mission Hospital while receiving treatment. According to his mother, Victoria Mutevu, her son was shot five times in the stomach.

“I want justice for my son. Why is the government killing our children?” the grieving mother asked, adding that she is now burdened with hospital and mortuary bills she cannot afford.

His grandmother, Veronica Mutevu, recalled that William left home at 5 a.m. without informing the family of his destination. “I received a phone call around 11 a.m. informing me that my grandson had been shot and rushed to hospital,” she said.

Matuu MCA Judas Mbili ya Ndawa, who visited those admitted to the hospital, confirmed that two other individuals were treated and discharged as they did not have gunshot wounds. He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and urged residents to remain peaceful as police commence investigations into the fatal shooting.

The family is now calling on authorities to investigate the incident and hold those responsible accountable.
