Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti is championing a long-term plan to position young people at the center of the county’s economic transformation.
Speaking during the completion ceremony of the first Machakos Youth Empowerment Programme cohort, she emphasized that the 1,000 trainees are not just graduates but future industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators.
“These talented young individuals are now poised to embark on an exciting journey as they enroll in our Vocational Training Centers, where they will pursue a range of vocational courses tailored to their interests,” she said.
“We are not just training them; we are shaping a generation that will drive economic growth.” The Governor added.

Governor Ndeti stressed that beyond skills acquisition, the county is working on creating sustainable opportunities for youth to become job creators rather than job seekers.
She noted that the next phase of the program will include industry partnerships, startup incubation, and access to business funding for trainees with viable ideas.
“We must shift our focus from looking for jobs to creating them. These young people have the potential to start businesses, employ others, and build a self-sufficient Machakos,” she added.
Governor Ndeti stressed that skills alone are not enough. The county is creating opportunities for youth to become job creators. The next phase will focus on industry partnerships and startup incubation. Trainees with viable ideas will also get access to business funding.

As the first cohort starts vocational training, the county aims to expand the program’s impact. It plans to link skilled graduates with industries. The goal is to empower them to take on leadership roles in various sectors. Governor Ndeti remains optimistic, stating, “The future is bright, and it belongs to those who are ready to build it.”
