Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has warned that stringent action will be taken against anyone found stealing drugs from County Hospitals.
Speaking in Athi River, Wavinya noted with concern that the health sector is affected so much by drug theft and anyone found culpable will face the music.
She called upon members of the public to help in the fight and ensure the drugs brought to hospitals are not taken out through back doors by unscrupulous people.
“I want to tell my people that it has been hard, I struggle to ensure there are drugs in hospitals then they are stolen. I would like you to help me catch the suspects and bring them to book,” Wavinya said.
“When you suspect drugs meant for our hospitals are being sold, report the issue and action will be taken against such people,” she added.
Wavinya spoke after visiting several hospitals in the Mavoko sub-county.
Her statement comes just a week after a cleaner at Muumandu dispensary was caught red-handed trying to steal drugs from the store.
According to the Chief Officer health department in Machakos Rashid Kala, the County Government of Machakos spends 30 million every month to buy drugs for the hospitals and health workers should be at the forefront in ensuring these drugs are well utilized.
