There was drama at the Kitui County Assembly on Tuesday after a fight broke out during Governor Julius Malombe’s State of the County address.
The chaos was sparked by a leadership dispute within the Assembly’s Majority side. Newly appointed Majority Whip Daniel Ngoima and Deputy Whip Cyrus Musyoka—who were named last week in changes made by the Wiper Party—attempted to assume their new roles.
However, their move was resisted by the previous officeholders, Harrison Maluki and Boniface Katula, who declined to vacate their positions.

Tensions quickly escalated into a fistfight that lasted nearly ten minutes, disrupting the proceedings and forcing Speaker Kevin Kinengo to intervene. The Speaker eventually declared the Majority Leader position vacant in an effort to restore order.
After calm was restored, Governor Malombe resumed and delivered his address as planned.
The Wiper Party had announced leadership changes last week, appointing Munyoki Mwinzi as Majority Leader, Daniel Ngoima as Majority Whip, and Cyrus Musyoka as Deputy Whip. This move appears to have deepened divisions within the Assembly.
