New Machakos Health CEC threatens to sack medics after impromptu hospital visit

The new Machakos County CEC of Health Daniel Yumbya has threatened to sack all medics who are not serious with their work.

Speaking after paying a surprise visit to Kangundo Level 4 Hospital Wednesday, Yumbya said that it was astonishing how out of 15 specialists in the hospital only 4 were present at work.

“Today we made an impromptu visit to Kangundo level 4 without informing any of the staff. To my surprise, medics are coming in and out of work how they like,” said Yumbya.

“In this hospital doctors who are known as specialists are 15 in this place but only four are in work today, no one knows where the others are or where they went to,” he added.

The CEC who was angered by the situation ordered the absentee medics to be called and he spoke to some of them. He ordered them to see him in his office.

The County health boss further issued a stern warning to anyone who would be found sending patients to nearby laboratories and private clinics for services that can be offered in the hospital that they would be sacked.

“If any patient is sent to get tested in a nearby lab like one have seen here, when the services can be given in the hospital be rest assured you are fired if caught,” the health CEC warned.

Yumbya was accompanied by several MCAs where Tala Ward MCA Jackson Ndaka asked the CEC to establish a hospital in Tala ward or upgrade Nguluni level 3 to help in decongesting Kangundo Level 4 Hospital.

“I want to ask kindly minister, we have seen that many patients here are from areas in Kangundo road, we plead if you can kindly establish a hospital in Tala so that we can strongest Kangundo,” said Ndaka.
