The body of a newborn baby has been found in a bag that had been left in a 16-seater Matatu in Matuu, Yatta Subcounty of Machakos County.
According to the conductor of the Matatu, which belongs to the Great Vision Sacco, the Matatu was carrying passengers from Machakos Bus Park to Matuu when he was given a bag, and he put it in the Matatu.
Upon arrival in Matuu Market after all people had alighted from the Matatu, he noticed that there was a bag that had been left behind. Upon checking on it, he saw blood dripping from the bag, and they immediately rushed to the Matuu police station and took the bag there.
The police opened the bag and found that the bag contained the body of the new born baby wrapped in papers and put in the bag.
“We have carried passengers from Machakos until we arrived in Matuu where after passengers alighted from the car, we went to fuel the Matatu and took it to the car wash,” said the Matatu Conductor.
“While picking the driver’s bag in the car, we found a bag that had been left and so we took it so we can look for its owner. As we took the bag, we saw it had blood, so we took it to the police station in Matuu, and the police opened the bag and found a newborn baby wrapped in papers,” he added.
Sleuths have started an investigation. The body has been moved to Matuu Level 4 Hospital.
