90-year-old man killed and robbed Inua Jamii cash in Makueni

Police in Kibwezi, Makueni county have launched investigations to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of a 90-year-old man from Metava village.

The old man identified as Mbungi Tumbo was attacked by unknown people on Tuesday night who slit his throat and made away with his Inua Jamii money.

The incident was confirmed by Maikuu Chief Nicholas Mwonga who said that the man was dumb and thus unable to scream while being attacked.

The chief narrated that the man lives alone and this is the fourth time he was being attacked and his money taken.

“On Tuesday he was taken by his Assistant to take the Inua Jamii money and came back home. At night he was attacked and robbed of his money,” said the chief.

The chief called upon the locals to work with the police to find the perpetrators of the crime by giving out names of people they suspect.

Chief Mwonga warned that those who committed the act will soon face the law.

“Their days are numbered and soon they will be caught and prosecuted. I would also like to urge the locals not to allow the aged to live alone because they will be people to attack,” he noted.

The government this week started the disbursement of 8.5 billion shillings of Inua Jamii program which targets a million beneficiaries across the country. This came after a 4 months delay in the disbursement. Each beneficiary receives Kshs. 2,000.
