A 32-year-old man from Ekalakala in Masinga, Machakos County was buried alive while harvesting sand.
Confirming the incident, Masinga Subcounty Police Commander Ancient Kaloki said that the man was with two others during the incident but they managed to escape.
The Subcounty Police boss went ahead to confirm that the two were harvesting sand that has been restricted by the County Government when the tragedy occurred.
“For the last four years, we have five cases in Masinga of people being buried in the sand. The County Government restricted sand harvesting in Masinga but people are still doing so despite the ban,” said Masinga Police Commander.
“The victim was with two other people when harvesting. The sand buried them but the two managed to escape leaving the other one who died on the spot,” Kaloki added.
The Body of the deceased was moved to Mbaku Funeral Hom as police commence investigations.
