Police in Mukuyuni, Kaiti sub-county of Makueni county have launched a manhunt for a woman who gave birth and threw the newborn in a toilet.
The one-day-old newborn was found in a toilet at Mumbuni Primary school by locals who heard cries.
The baby was rescued and rushed to Mukuyuni hospital for medical attention.
“It was around 10 am when the baby was heard crying in the teacher’s toilet. Locals had to demolish the toilet and upon retrieval, we realized even the placenta was still intact. It’s not clear the person who did this but investigations are ongoing,” said the witness.
“This incident is shocking because there are a lot of people seeking to have children but cannot. Why would one leave a baby to die in such a condition surely,” The witness added. added.
Members of the public have been urged to provide information that may lead the police to nab the suspect.
