Kyumbi: Wavinya, Machakos MCAs clash with alleged land grabbers

Transport in Makutano Junction (Kyumbi) along Nairobi -Mombasa highway came to a standstill Tuesday after some residents blocked the road.

Machakos County Assembly Committee for Lands visited a piece of land along the Kyumvi area where alleged to have been grabbed by a businessman.

Hell broke loose when the Committee entered the land where some residents who supported the alleged land grabber started to fight them using bows and arrows resulting in a fracas.

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti was forced to come to the area and while addressing the furious residents asked President William Ruto to intervene in the matter saying that they would not lie low and see land that belonged to the County Government being grabbed.

The furious Governor revealed that the person who purported to be the owner of the land had no papers to show his ownership and that he had been in her office requesting to be given 50 acres of the land something she said she will never do.

“President William Ruto, you know am a peaceful person but your people here have brought us problems. Please call the County Commissioner and the County Security so that we can have a talk because what is going on here is not possible,” said Wavinya.

“That person you are calling Steve was in my office and told me personally that he knows that this shamba is not his, I give 50 acres. You know well that those papers you are having are not legal. You have shown me mockery as your Governor, let’s go!,” She added.

One person was shot with an arrow and rushed to hospital as police tried to bring peace to the area.
