Kalekye Mumo opens up on being Single at 40

Kalekye Mumo has lived a life in the spotlight, but when it comes to love, the stage has offered more lessons than fairy tales. In a refreshingly honest chat on The Dating Stories podcast, the media personality pulled back the curtain on her romantic experiences—and shared one story that still lingers.

Long past the phase of equating relationships with wealth or status, Kalekye said money no longer factors heavily in her dating decisions. The real currency, it seems, is character.

“I still haven’t figured out the Christian dating life,” she admitted, describing the tension between her spiritual growth and romantic history.

“You are coming from a place where things were done differently… then, as you continue to grow in your faith, you get to understand what God talks about in terms of how to build a happy relationship. Marriage is not for everyone you discover. If you put it in my heart as a desire.” She added.

That desire once seemed within reach when she met a man at a club—a rare occurrence, especially for her. It was a moment of spontaneity after turning 40, and for a change, things appeared aligned: he was her age, independent, and emotionally available—or so it seemed.

“This was something you were hoping for. This person is two years younger than you, which is better than the ten or seven-year age gap people who hit on me.” Kalekye went on.

But the romance didn’t last. When she arranged for him to meet her close friends, he agreed—and then ghosted. No explanations. No apologies. Just radio silence.

“He pulls a move of planning to meet my friends, we set a time, and he doesn’t show up,” Kalekye recalled.

It was a jarring but clarifying experience. Now single, Kalekye is more grounded than ever—and more skeptical of how society romanticizes relationships. Her outlook? Clear-eyed. Grateful. And wiser. “I had several relationships, and I’m just grateful they ended before I became pregnant or contracted diseases.”
