2 cases of Mpox have been confirmed at Kangundo Level 4 Hospital in Machakos County, prompting immediate isolation of the patients.
According to the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Dr. Juliet Munyao, the patients, a married couple, had recently traveled from Uganda to their home in Kangundo before exhibiting symptoms consistent with the viral disease.
“They began experiencing fever and general illness shortly after arrival. Upon admission to Kangundo hospital, samples were taken and results confirmed it was Mpox,” Dr. Munyao said.

Machakos County Health CEC Justus Kasivu confirmed the cases and said the Department of Health has commenced contact tracing to curb further spread.
“We urge the public to remain vigilant and observe hygiene and safety measures. Contact tracing is ongoing to identify anyone who may have interacted with the patients,” said Kasivu.
