Donyo Sabuk: Lord Macmillan’s grave dug up by thieves

The residents of Ol-Donyo Sabuk in Matungulu Sub-county of Machakos county are in shock after the grave of Lord William Northup MacMillan was dug up early this week.

MacMillan was buried over a century ago on the slopes of Ol-Donyo Sabuk overlooking his castle and the Fourteen Falls in Thika.

Area police confirmed the incident stating that the thieves were after the possessions he was buried with.

The police found the corroded silver casket ransacked and left exposed by the daring thieves.

However, no suspect has been arrested in connection with the theft.

Also, the motive of the crime is yet to be established as the police launch investigations.

Born in 1872 Macmillan was a renowned philanthropist who lived at his 33,000-acre estate currently owned by the Muka Mukuu farmers’ cooperative society.

He was a decorated American soldier who was knighted by the King of England although he was not British.

His castle owned by the society is a perfect tourist site with a rich history.
