A first-year student at Machakos University was found dead in a ditch on Thursday night.
The body of the girl known as Bryah Gechemba was retrieved by the police and moved to Machakos level five hospital mortuary.
The incident was confirmed by Emmanuel Okanda, Machakos sub-county police commander. He noted that the incident happened some minutes before midnight.
According to Okanda, the incident was reported as a sudden death. He said that upon retrieval of the body, it had no physical injuries and the cause of death could not be established immediately.
He noted that the girl had left her rented house in Kaloleni in search of food when the incident happened.
“She was found dead in a ditch, she had gone to find supper when it happened but investigations have commenced,” Okanda said.
Her fellow students took to social media to mourn her sudden death describing her as a jovial and calm person.
