Former UDA Chair and Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) Commissioner Johnson Muthama has signaled that at supporting Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s presidential bid in 2027.
Speaking during a church service at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kyangwithya, Kitui, Muthama explained why he could not back Kalonzo in 2022. He said he was displeased when Kalonzo was subjected to a running mate interview despite having previously served as Vice President.
“When I was with Kalonzo in 2007 and 2013, I wanted him to become president. But then they said Kalonzo had to attend an interview to be Raila’s running mate alongside Martha Karua, someone who had never even been Vice President, not even of a chicken-rearing party,” Muthama remarked.
He added that standing by Kalonzo at that point was impossible for him. “Could I have stood with Kalonzo being interviewed alongside Martha Karua? I could not. When I was with Kalonzo, he used to go to Raila without any conditions. Was I wrong when Kalonzo went to support Raila and I went to support Ruto?” benimbahiss.com

Muthama further noted that he has kept a low political profile to avoid being blamed for blocking Kalonzo from ascending to the presidency.
“I am silent now because I don’t want to be told later that I blocked my tribesmen from being president. Let him (Kalonzo) bring the certificate, then I will tell you we support him. If it’s Gachagua or Matiang’i, I won’t,” he stated.
