Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. Reshuffles Cabinet

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. has reshuffled his cabinet in response to persistent criticism from MCAs regarding the performance of the executive. The announcement was made by Speaker Douglas Mbilu during a plenary session on Monday.

Nicholas Nzioka, who previously led the Lands department has been moved to the Devolution docket. Japheth Mang’oka has been moved to Lands. Additionally, Eng. Sebastian Kyoni, formerly heading the Transport and Infrastructure department, will now oversee Gender, while Eng. Peter Mumo steps in as the new CECM Transport and Infrastructure.

The reshuffle follows growing discontent among MCAs, who have accused certain Executive Committee Members (ECMs) of lethargy and a lack of commitment to their roles. This dissatisfaction has prompted calls for more decisive action from the governor.

In the assembly, reactions to the reshuffle were mixed. Some members expressed cautious optimism, hoping that the changes would lead to improved efficiency within the executive.

However, others voiced concerns that simply reassigning underperformers would not address the core issues. Lewis Benard Mutua from Mbitini was particularly critical, stating, “Some ECMs are simply unable to perform. Transferring them to other dockets will achieve nothing because they will still do nothing.” He urged the governor to consider more drastic measures.

This reshuffle reflects the ongoing struggle within the county government to address perceived inefficiencies and restore confidence among assembly members and constituents. As the governor implements these changes, the pressure remains for his administration to deliver tangible results and accountability in governance.
