More than 200 lawyers from Lower Eastern will be giving free legal services to the public this week.
Addressing the press outside Machakos High court the lawyers led by their Chairman Mutua Makau said that this initiative was a way to give back to society.
“Today we are elated as we launch Legal Awareness week for our branch the Law Society of Kenya South Eastern Branch. For us here it is a way of giving back to society through free legal advice, many people are going through a lot in their daily endeavors,” Chairman Mutua Makau said.
“This week we have agreed as Advocates that we give back to society through free legal aid, we shall be in the court premises of Machakos from Monday 24th up to Friday 9 am-4 am and we encourage members of the public to come and get free legal advice,” added the South Eastern LSK Chairman.
His words were echoed by Former Machakos Speaker and Nzioka Waita’s running mate in the August polls Florence Mwangangi who said that the awareness was going to benefit many residents.
She clarified that the awareness week would be undertaken in all the courts under the South Eastern Block which comprises 5 counties namely, Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Kajiado, and Garissa urging the public to show up in large numbers.
“Am glad that this initiative is open to all and my urge is for the public to show up in large numbers so that they can be assisted. We shall be giving free advice and that is within the law,” Florence said.
