James Mbaluka the proprietor of Eden Mart Supermarket and Eden Hotel in Emali Town has spoken after a raid on his businesses during Thursday’s protests.
Mbaluka who had been nominated as Health CAS said that before the looting and destruction started four people were seen each carrying 1tr of petrol and were intercepted while trying to enter the building.
The politician revealed that the people who had destroyed property were not residents of Emali noting that they were ferried and their aim was not to loot the building but to torch it.
“The fracas started when 4 guys each carrying 1ltr bottle with petrol were intercepted at my building next to the supermarket all not known to us and not Emali residents. That is what alerted us, we immediately went around the mall inspecting and found around 15 people at the back of the building,” said Mbaluka.

“They had already broken part a glass and from the look of things were waiting for petrol to arrive. The plan was to burn the building. People were ferried from different locations to Emali. CCTV was on and investigations are ongoing,” he added.
Since the start of the protests, many businesses have been broken into, and properties worth billions destroyed.
