Yatta: Government acts on increasing insecurity in Kimangu

Kimangu, a once-peaceful village in Yatta, Machakos County, is now grappling with a frightening surge in criminal activity.

Residents live in fear, their daily lives disrupted by masked thugs and brazen break-ins. The community is demanding action, and plans are underway to revive a neglected police post.

Imagine closing your shop early, not because business is slow, but because you fear masked thugs wielding crude weapons. That’s the reality for traders in Kimangu. Residents are living in fear, with reports of break-ins, muggings, and even home invasions becoming commonplace.

One trader from Senza Samburu shared his frustration, describing how his business has dwindled due to several break-ins by a five-man gang. Can you picture the fear of young criminals dressing as police officers, further eroding trust?

Steven Lindi paints a chilling picture, describing how new suspicious faces arrive, seemingly scouting the area for night raids. His own family is still reeling from a terrifying home invasion. The situation is dire, demanding immediate action.

Yatta Deputy County Commissioner James Chacha acknowledged the severity of the situation.

Chacha announced steps taken to address the crisis by requesting more security officers and pushing for the revival of the Kimangu police post.

“In the meantime we have spoken to the OCPD, and we have decided from today there will be patrols until we establish the police post,” he assured the community.

However, the DCC emphasized that police presence alone is not enough and urged residents to collaborate with the police by reporting suspicious activities and sharing information that could lead to the apprehension of the criminals.

The revival of the police post offers a glimmer of hope, but the success of this initiative hinges on the community’s involvement. It’s a call to action for every resident to be vigilant and proactive in safeguarding their neighborhood.
