Over 1000 children in Matungulu West sub-county have benefitted with birth certificates courtesy of the area Member of County Assembly Raphael Nzau Lucky.
Nzau said the move was to save the locals from numerous trips to Machakos to apply for the certificates.
“I had received many requests from the locals urging me to bring an officer from the registrar of persons to assist them in getting birth certificates for their children and I am glad they have gotten them before the children join school next year. Many could not afford the trips to Machakos,” said Nzau.
He also asked parents who applied for the certificates to ensure they pick them lest they lie idle in his office.
Parents whose children got the certificates could not hide their joy narrating the ordeal they went through in Machakos in pursuit of the certificates.
“We are so grateful because a huge burden has been taken off our backs. We used to spend too much time and money before we could have the documents. Sometimes we are even forced to give bribes to avoid the back and forths which were hectic,” narrated a local.
