Mike Sonko Honors Late TikToker Liz Kamene with Grand Send-Off

22-year-old Kenyan TikTok influencer Liz Kamene, fondly known as Kamba Icon, was laid to rest in an emotional ceremony at her family’s home in Kangundo, Machakos County.

The content creator tragically lost her life on March 10, 2025, in a hit-and-run incident at the Kariobangi Roundabout while chasing after a phone snatcher who had made off with her phone only for her to meet her untimely demise.

Kamene’s final send-off was made possible through the generosity of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, whose Sonko Rescue Team took charge of the arrangements. In a grand gesture befitting her influence, her casket was transported in a carriage pulled by a Hummer along Thika Road, a tribute orchestrated by Sonko to honor her memory.

Her husband, Wycliffe Holden, delivered a heartfelt tribute during a candlelight vigil on March 14. He reminisced about their four-year relationship and expressed his unwavering love for Kamene.

“I love this girl, above all. God knows I’m going to love her.”Wycliffe said.

He defended her against critics, emphasizing his deep commitment to her despite public scrutiny.

“She was made from my rib, that’s why I do what I did. I was meant for her… it wasn’t my choice we were meant to be.” He added.

The funeral was attended by grieving family, friends, and fans, all remembering Kamene’s vibrant spirit and creativity. Her sudden passing has sparked conversations about road safety and the struggles faced by young digital content creators in Kenya.

As investigations continue, many are also acknowledging Mike Sonko’s role in ensuring Kamene received a dignified farewell, reinforcing his reputation for stepping in during moments of tragedy.
