In a tragic and shocking event that unfolded on Sunday, a 65-year-old woman from Athi Kamunyuni in Yatta sub-county, Machakos county, met a brutal end at the hands of enraged locals.
Accused of killing her son through witchcraft, she was set ablaze after failing to fulfill her promise of resurrecting him.
The woman had allegedly confessed to the heinous act, revealing a chilling demand she had made before her son’s death.
According to Lucy Katali, a village elder, the woman had threatened her son, demanding KSh 30,000, and ominously warned that he would die if he did not comply. Despite multiple reminders, the son did not send the money and eventually passed away.
On the day of the incident, the woman had called for a family meeting at her home, which drew a large crowd of locals.
Under immense pressure, she admitted to the crime and claimed she could bring her son back to life. The mob, desperate for justice and retribution, forcefully escorted her to her son’s grave.
After several failed attempts to resurrect her son, the furious mob’s patience wore thin. In a moment of frenzied anger, they decided to take matters into their own hands, setting the woman ablaze.
