Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has issued a public apology to Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti for remarks he made during a Radio interview last week.
In a letter seen by Mauvoo News, Senator Onyonka retracted his statement that Governor Wavinya had spent Ksh—962 million on legal fees.
He clarified that this expenditure occurred under the administration of former Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua between 2013 and 2022.
Onyonka explained that his comments were based on the Auditor General’s report and were not intended to target Governor Wavinya.
“On July 24, 2024, during an interview on Classic FM discussing the State of the Nation, I commented on the payment of Ksh. 962 million in legal fees by Machakos County, as highlighted in the Auditor General’s report. These fees accrued from 2018 to 2022 under the tenure of Hon. Dr. Alfred Mutua as Governor,” the letter read in part.
“I acknowledge the concerns raised by Hon. Wavinya Ndeti, current Governor of Machakos County, regarding my remarks, which have led to media criticism directed at her. I sincerely apologize to Governor Wavinya Ndeti and clarify that my comments were strictly in reference to the Auditor General’s findings of the said years and not aimed at her personally,” he added.
Governor Wavinya Ndeti has acknowledged the apology on her Facebook page.
