A video of the late Mbaitu FM presenter Mercy Mawia, recently shared on TikTok, has unveiled her unspoken political ambitions for 2027, a dream tragically cut short by her sudden death.
Mercy passed away on Tuesday morning while receiving treatment at South B Hospital, leaving a void in the hearts of many who admired her.
In the touching video, Mercy then candidly discussed her future plans, revealing her uncertainty about which political seat she would pursue but expressing a confident belief that she would one day be addressed as ‘Mheshimiwa.’
Her motivation stemmed from her encounters with countless individuals whose needs she felt powerless to meet within the confines of her journalistic role.
“I will not be a journalist till old age. In 2028, I will be in politics. In journalism, we meet many people whose needs we cannot meet. I would like to reach them one-on-one, understand their problems, and find ways to solve them. By the grace of God, I will hold a political seat; I don’t know which one, but I’m sure I will,” Mercy passionately shared.
She also highlighted her desire to make space for the younger generation of journalists, acknowledging the numerous young talents in the field struggling to find jobs.
“There are many young people who have studied journalism and have no jobs, so it’s also good for those with over 10 years in media to pave the way for this generation. We need other Kamuwetangis to take our position,” she added in the clip.
Mercy Mawia’s untimely death has cast a shadow of sorrow over all who knew her, cutting short a life brimming with potential and a vision for transformative change.
Her words and aspirations now serve as a testament to her enduring spirit and the impact she hoped to make beyond the microphone.
