Lang’ata police have launched a high-profile investigation into disturbing allegations of sexual assault and theft that reportedly took place during the Kamba Festival at Carnivore Grounds last Saturday.
The festival, which drew hundreds of attendees, took a dark turn when several women came forward to report being harassed by individuals who, shockingly, may have ties to a popular Kamba content creator.
Monica Kimani, the Lang’ata Sub-County Police Commander, confirmed that her department has obtained both witness accounts and video evidence as part of the ongoing probe.
“I can confirm that this afternoon, we received two reports from women who allege they were sexually harassed during the event. Fortunately, the individuals involved were caught on camera, and we are narrowing down on the suspects,” Kimani said.
The suspects, according to leads gathered so far, are thought to be bouncers associated with a well-known Kamba TikTok influencer who was present at the festival.
The harrowing accounts shared by victims describe an atmosphere where event security, instead of providing safety, allegedly turned predatory.
One victim recalled a bouncer’s chilling response when confronted: “One of the bouncers told me, ‘I am the government; you can take me nowhere.”
This brazen attitude has drawn public outrage, with many questioning the unchecked power that event security may wield.
Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda personally accompanied the victims to Lang’ata Police Station to record their statements where she expressed her shock and frustration, demanding swift justice.
“These culprits must be brought to book. They must explain where they get the audacity to think they are above the law. I am confident that with the police’s help, these men will face the full force of the law,” said the Senator.
Event organizers are also expected to face questioning, as investigators dig deeper into the operations and handling of security at the festival.
The case has sparked a wider conversation on event safety and the accountability of those in positions of authority, especially in Kenya’s entertainment scene.
With arrests expected soon, many hope this investigation will set a precedent for swift action against harassment and abuse in public spaces.
