32 needy candidates from Machakos County who sat for their KCPE in 2022 have been granted the Wings To Fly Scholarship by Equity Bank Of Kenya.
This was revealed by Equity Bank Machakos Town Branch Manager Hellen Muthoki while flagging off the candidates to join others for an induction program at Pangani Girls.
Addressing the press in Machakos Town, Hellen revealed that in Machakos Sub county they picked 8 students out of 325 people who had applied for the scholarship.
“We did home visits, interviews, and shortlisted so that we could come up with the 8. The community scholarship board which is constituted of locals from the community did all vetting,” Muthoki said.
In Matungulu and Kangundo Subcounty, 8 students out of 200 applicants got the chance to benefit from the scholarship according to Equity Bank Tala Branch Manager Joseph Muia Mule who called on well-wishers to assist the other 192 applicants.
Muia revealed that there were needy cases of candidates who had excelled but they do not have the fees to join their respective High Schools.
“We had 200 applicants and out of them, only 8 were able to get the chance. I appeal to well-wishers and the Government to ensure that candidates who are not able to get fees are assisted because we met really needy cases that require assistance,” Muia said.
In Masinga and Yatta, only 8 candidates out of 154 got the chance to the scholarship according to Equity Bank Manager in Yatta Francis Gichugu.
