Mutula: Muatineni River accident could have been avoided

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior has said that the drowning incident at Muatineni Kwa Muswii River could have been avoided.

Speaking after visiting the scene where more than ten people lost their lives, Mutula said that the people around should have warned the lorry driver and prevented him from driving into the jaws of death.

He condoled with the affected families and disclosed that the county government would cater for the hospital and burial bills of the victims.

“It is saddening that these people were fending for their families, I would like to send my condolence to their families. We will cater for treatment, post-mortem, and burial arrangements to the victims,” said Mutula.

Mutula said that a report about the bridge needs to be done arguing that it was shoddily constructed. He also thanked divers who risked their lives to save those involved in the accident.

“It seems the driver of the lorry was not conversant with the bridge thus the accident,” said the governor.
