The Driver who caused the accident that claimed the life of renown Machakos lawyer Morris Mulei a fortnight ago has been arrested and arraigned in court.
Confirming the incident Machakos Sub county Police Commander Moss Ndhiwa said that the driver was the one driving the lorry that hit the lawyer. Morris died on the spot. The lorry driver was arrested and locked up in Machakos police station. He was arraigned in court on 5th October.
This came two weeks after the accident occurred on a Saturday morning in Kaloleni area along Machakos-Kenol road.
According to the sub-county police commander, the suspect who was identified as Fidelis Mutuku was arrested after the owner of the vehicle presented himself to the police and reported the driver.
“The driver of the lorry that got involved in a road accident resulting in the lawyer’s death was arrested and has been arraigned in court,” said the police commander.
The case was before principal magistrate Ann Nyoike who directed that the accused be given a bond of 200,000 and surety of a similar amount or 100,000 cash bail. The case will be heard on 24th October 2022.
The accident occurred on the morning of 24th September when the lawyer was riding his bike and was hit by a lorry along the Machakos – Kenol and the driver of the lorry escaped. Morris was rushed to Machakos Level 5 Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His burial is scheduled to happen in Kangundo t Friday 7th October. He left behind a widow and two children.
