40 Original and 10 Fake ID cards recovered from a bus traveling from Dadaab at Yatta

Police in Yatta sub-county of Machakos County arrested 4 people Tuesday at NYS Yatta and recovered 50 ID Cards in a Nairobi bound bus.

The four, a driver his conductor and two other men were arrested after the security team in Yatta sub-county led by the DCC Lilian Njagi and Subcounty police commander got a hint about the bus.

Among the four men, one of them was an alien while the other had a fake identity card.

Speaking to the press after the arrest, Yatta sub-county Commissioner Lilian Njagi said that the vehicle that was intercepted was travelling from Dadaab to Nairobi.

DCC Njagi said that they got intel that the bus was ferrying identity cards to Nairobi and that’s when they put a roadblock at NYS Yatta. After they conducted a thorough search, they found 40 original IDs and 10 fake IDs which were laminated and hidden under the buses’ seats.

“Today our team got intelligence that a bus belonging to Garrisa PSV SACCO travelling from Dadaab to Nairobi was ferrying several Identity cards that are suspected to be illegal and suspected aliens,” she said.

“Our police mounted a roadblock at NYS Yatta and they managed to get 40 original IDs and 10 fake ones. Our prime suspect is the driver and the conductor but we have arrested two other people one who is an alien and the other had a fake ID,” she added.

The four are being locked up at Kithimani police station awaiting to be arraigned in court, while the other travellers were released to continue with their journey.
