Fatal plunge as Athi River accident claims two lives

Two people lost their lives after a ghastly accident along the Nairobi-Mombasa road in Athi River, Machakos county.

The two a man and a woman, middle-aged were occupants of a car that plunged into River Athi on Thursday night.

The accident was confirmed by Athi River South police boss Jos Mudavadi who noted that it happened a few meters from Crystal River Mall at around 10 pm.

At the time of the accident the vehicle, a Nissan X-trail make was heading in the Nairobi direction.

On reaching the scene the driver who was a woman lost control and hit the guardrails plunging into the river.

“On reaching the location of the accident the driver lost control and hit the guardrails of the bridge plus going into the river. Due to the impact both the driver and the passenger died on the spot,” Mudavadi said.

The police arrived at the scene and over the two bodies to Shalom Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy.

The vehicle wreckage has been towed to Athi River police station awaiting inspection as investigations into the accident commence.
