20-year-old Rita Waeni, the JKUAT student whose death shook the country, was laid to rest in a private ceremony attended only by her family in Mukimwani in Makueni.
Rita’s dismembered body was discovered in an Airbnb in Roysambu along Thika Road on January 14, 2024.
The family emphasized the desire for privacy during this difficult time.
“As you are all aware, the DCI released Waeni’s body to the family on Friday, February 2, 2024. This morning her body was laid to rest at her parents’ home in Mukimwani Village, Kisau locattion, Makueni county in a quiet ceremony attended by family only” Stated the family spokesperson Dr Lilian Mutea.
“We are at peace because we know that our larger family, friends, colleagues, and many Kenyans who have shared this loss will understand the decision. We thank everyone for the support, and contributions and for constantly praying for us.” She added.
