Wiper activist Janet Cheupe was Tuesday 2nd August laid to rest at Darajani, Kambu, Makueni sub-county. A funeral service was conducted at Ngwata Youth polytechnic attended by family, friends, Wiper supporters, and a host of leaders and aspirants from the county,

Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo narrated how Janet Cheupe was once picked from Kambu by the police after allegedly uttering insults at Senator Muthama and taken to Gigiri Police station. Maanzo told mourners the next morning he went to the station and Cheupe was fighting to know why she was arrested and asking for Muthama to be brought to the police station.

“We found that Muthama had reported her to the police because of some remarks on social media. We had a fight there as she asked former senator Johnson Muthama to come to record a statement. Muthama feared and failed to turn up and she was released and I escorted her to town.”Maanzo narrated.

He assured the family that he will follow up to ensure that the nomination that had been handed to Cheupe by the Wiper party to Makueni county Assembly goes to another person from the family.

“I want to thank her husband who has spoken like a hundred men and his son who I have seen a potential for politics in. Muinde we will stand with you and I will pay his fees. May God comfort you. “She said.

Makueni Women Rep Rose Museo narrated her last moments with the deceased terming her as a go-getter.

“Cheupe loved me and I loved her. She was like fire, if you use it well it’s helpful but if not used well can burn. Before she died she called me five times that night, she wanted to supply food somewhere and I had sent her some money to buy what she wanted to supply but she told me it was not enough. I saw her message when I woke up at 5 am telling me to talk to some businessman at Kambu to give her the food to supply and I told her it’s okay.” Museo said.

“When I saw she had not read the message the next day, I called her and she was offline. On Thursday when I was at Mavindini I was told she was no more. It really hurt me and she didn’t want people to get used to her.” She narrated.

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior who missed the funeral will be condoling with the family on Friday.
