Makueni: Assembly adjourns as MCAs demand the whereabouts of Speaker Mbilu

The Makueni County MCAs adjourned the house’s proceeding to allow them to find out the whereabouts of Speaker Douglas Mbilu who had been arrested earlier in the morning and taken to an undisclosed location.

Led by the Deputy Majority Leader Francis Mutuku who had moved the adjournment motion, the members said that the house’s business could not continue without being aware of the fate of their speaker.

“It is clear that members do not feel free to be in this chamber when our speaker has been whisked away. It is a fact that we do not know where he is. We are just getting rumors that he might be in Makindu, Kitui, or Thika”, Mutuku said.

Jades Kalunda the Minority Leader seconded the motion, vowing that the members are in solidarity with Mbilu.

“Leaders of minorities across the country are calling me asking where the speaker is. Am not able to tell them where the speaker is. Honourable member for Mukaa went to the police station with the speaker but the speaker was whisked away. He cannot tell the family of the speaker where he is. So it is good to note that this is a solidarity motion to help the people of Makueni understand that we have a big problem”, Jades added.

Speaker Mbilu was arrested Monday on speculations that it could be in connection with last week’s anti-government protests by Azimio supporters in the county. Missed the story? check it out below;
