Machakos senatorial hopeful Dr. Daniel Yumbya has pledged to prioritize the full devolution of health and agriculture if elected in the 2027 general elections, saying meaningful development cannot be achieved without strengthening these key sectors at the county level.
Speaking during a public address in Machakos, Dr. Yumbya emphasized that his first order of business in the Senate will be to advocate for increased funding to counties and ensure the effective use of those resources.
“I will make it my duty to strengthen oversight in Machakos County. Service delivery has suffered due to weak accountability mechanisms. Once elected, I will ensure public funds are well utilized and the people get value for their money,” he said.
He further committed to lobbying for adequate funding and full devolution of health and agriculture, noting that these sectors remain partially devolved, which continues to hamper service delivery.
“As your senator, I will fight to ensure these ministries are fully devolved and properly resourced. Our hospitals must have medicine, and our farmers must have access to modern tools and support. That’s how we will transform Machakos,” Dr. Yumbya added.
He also vowed to collaborate with other leaders to ensure Machakos receives its fair share of national resources and to champion legislation that empowers counties to respond effectively to citizens’ needs.
“I will be the voice of Machakos in the Senate. I will advocate for laws and policies that strengthen devolution and promote transparency, accountability, and development. Together, we can build a county that works for everyone,” he said.
Dr. Yumbya concluded by urging residents to take advantage of the voter registration exercise set to begin on Monday, encouraging eligible citizens to register and participate in shaping the county’s future.
