Machakos County Health Workers have called off the planned strike after their grievances were addressed by the County Government.
This is after they got letters of promotion handed over by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health Dr. Daniel Yumbya and Chairperson of County Public Service Board Urbanus Mutisya.
Speaking during the handing over of the promotion, KMPDU Chair Charles Okumu said that the health workers were not going to strike as it had been scheduled noting that over 400 of them had received their promotion letters.
“We have called off the strike notice that we had issued notice on 26th June following the completion of the promotion exercise that the county government of Machakos has conducted,” said the KMPDU chair.
“We have gotten over 400 promotion letters the exercise has been completed by the County Public Service Board and the health department of Machakos County. This is to inform all healthcare workers that the strike has been called off,” he added.
Early this month, the health workers issued a two weeks strike notice saying that their grievances had not been met and they stayed over 10 years without getting their promotions.
“We issued the County Government with a legal strike notice 2 weeks ago, today we have just come out of a meeting with the officers of the County Government without anything tangible as considered by these members, they have failed to address our issues,” said one the health workers then.
