Machakos Deputy Governor Issues Stern Warning over Counterfeits

Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has declared a firm stance against tolerating counterfeit products in Machakos, stating they are detrimental to legitimate businesses in the region, which he argues are harming the local economy.

Mwangangi highlighted the threat posed by unscrupulous investors who exploit the market through the selling of counterfeiting and contraband products to unsuspecting customers.

“We will deal with those involved in counterfeits ruthlessly. We shouldn’t kill legitimate investments due to those selling counterfeit products,” he asserted.

The Deputy Governor who was speaking during the opening of Mabati Rolling Mills show room noted that counterfeiters often target fast-moving consumer brands, resulting in significant profit loss for legitimate businesses.

Commonly counterfeited items include electronics, motor vehicle parts, food and beverages, and luxury goods, according to the Anti-Counterfeit Authority.

Mwangangi pledged that the county administration would collaborate with national government agencies to intensify efforts against counterfeiting and contraband. He urged those involved in these illegal activities to seek business opportunities elsewhere but not in Machakos.

“Let them sell elsewhere but legitimate investors pay taxes, create jobs, and contribute to the economy, while counterfeiters simply seek quick profits,” Mwangangi said.

The Deputy Governor’s comments come as part of a broader initiative to protect and promote genuine businesses within the county.
