Machakos Deputy Governor gives update on Doctors strike

Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has confirmed that doctors in the county are back to work after a labor court ordered them to end their strike.

Speaking in Mukunike, Kangundo sub-county, Mwangangi assured residents that health services are resuming across the county.

He highlighted that the county has promoted 422 healthcare workers over the past two years as part of ongoing efforts to address their grievances.

Mwangangi also explained that delays in national government funding have disrupted essential services, with the Counties operating for 4 months without funds from the National government.

“We had to go to court to get a solution. Doctors are now back, and any who haven’t reported yet will do so soon,” Mwangangi stated.

“Our hands are tied by national regulations. Even the money we collect has to go back to the treasury before it returns to us for services yet there are many projects needing money.” He added.

Despite these financial challenges, Mwangangi reiterated the county’s commitment to supporting healthcare workers and ensuring that services to the public continue without further interruptions.

Mwangangi had attended the burial of the mother of Francis Munyambu, Chief officer in the Department of Inspectorate.

Other leaders who had accompanied him include Senator Agnes Kavindu, Roads CeC Rita Ndunge, Kangundo West MCA Charles Mbuva among other leaders.
