Dr. Yumbya Pushes for Adaptive Healthcare Regulations in Global Workshop

Dr. Daniel Yumbya, Director International Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities (IAMRA) has stressed the need for innovative and adaptable healthcare regulations.

During his presentation at the Quality and Safety in Health Strategic Workshop in Pretoria, South Africa Yumbya told a gathering of healthcare leaders, policymakers, and regulators that as global healthcare challenges become increasingly complex, there is a critical need for regulatory systems that can evolve and address the diverse and changing healthcare landscapes.

Dr. Yumbya highlighted that strong, adaptable regulatory frameworks are key to improving healthcare quality. These frameworks not only ensure patient safety but also foster accountability and innovation in healthcare delivery.

He stressed that regulations must be flexible enough to accommodate new technologies, such as digital health solutions and artificial intelligence while maintaining a focus on patient-centered care.

“The future of healthcare relies on systems that can adjust to new challenges and opportunities. It is not enough to have rigid regulations that may fail to address emerging issues,” said Dr. Yumbya.

He called for a more dynamic approach to healthcare regulation, one that can effectively respond to the rapid pace of change in healthcare needs, technological advancements, and patient expectations.

He also highlighted the importance of global collaboration among healthcare regulators, advocating for the creation of knowledge-sharing platforms that allow countries to exchange best practices and learn from one another’s experiences.

This kind of collaboration, Dr. Yumbya argued, is essential to building a healthcare system that can provide safe, accessible, and effective care for all.
