Machakos Contractors Chair decries influx of Somali Contractors in County projects

Machakos County Contractors Chair Kilei Mutinda has decried the increase in Somali contractors doing County Projects as local Contractors get a wide birth.

Kilei who was speaking in Mwala claimed even small projects like ECDE classrooms are now being done by non-local contractors and accused them of doing shoddy jobs.

“We want our MCAs to do oversight. When we tell the Governor what is going wrong you are accused of attacking her. In Mwala hospital, we are paying 100 Ksh which was not being paid during Mutua’s time when we call out such we are being told we are attacking the Governor.” Kilei said.

“As contractors chair, we have seen some projects like a hospital in Nyaani done by a Somali called Zaburi. He also did Kyamutwii dispensary, Kithangaini dispensary, and Yikiatine ECDE classrooms. The dams were also done by Somali contractors. We have our children who are contractors. Let the people of Machakos do the jobs. We are not attacking the Governor. Our constitution says 70 percent of jobs should go to locals. ” Kilei added.

Speaking at the same function Mwala MP Eng. Vincent Musyoka called out Governor Wavinya over the raid of businesses belonging to her fierce critic Francis Ngunga.
