Machakos Town Boda Boda Association Chairman, Allan Musembi, has spoken out following his release from police custody after a dramatic re-arrest. Musembi claims his rearrest was triggered by Machakos Town MP Caleb Mule’s decision to allegedly withdraw the bond he had earlier secured for him.
Speaking to the media after his release, Musembi expressed shock and disappointment at the legislator’s actions, linking them to his recent public support for the county government under Governor Wavinya Ndeti.
“I was appearing before court for my case with the county government over the demolition of boda boda shades in Machakos Town. To my astonishment, MP Caleb Mule sent people to collect the bond, leading to my re-arrest,” said Musembi.
He recounted that the arrest happened while he was going about his daily routine.
“I was taking tea, minding my own business, when the police came and arrested me. Upon inquiry, I was informed that the bond secured by MP Caleb Mule had been withdrawn,” he said.
Musembi said he would not be intimidated and vowed to continue supporting the county government’s efforts, especially in improving the welfare of the boda boda sector.
“I will continue to support Governor Wavinya Ndeti because of the boda boda people. We’ve seen the county government construct shades for us after our meetings with the Governor. If this is the reason my bond was withdrawn, so be it,” he added.
The outspoken chairman was initially arrested after confronting county officials over the demolition of boda boda shades. His initial release had been facilitated by the area MP, a position that has now shifted due to apparent political disagreements.
