Kitui Speaker tells off Governor Malombe

Kitui Speaker Kevin Kinengo has reprimanded Governor Julius Malombe in what seems to be a growing rift between the Kitui County Assembly and the Executive.

Speaking over the Weekend, Kinengo told Malombe that he does not own the Kitui County government and that it belongs to the people of Kitui.

“He Governor Malombe) is chest-thumping and saying, My Government won’t be destroyed. This government does not belong to Malombe. It belongs to the people of Kitui. He was there and went, and others came, and he will still go. He has two years left in office,” Kinengo said.

The Speaker also decried disrespect to the Assembly by Chief officers, CECMs, Directors, and other senior county officials.

“Chief officers, CECMs are now bigger than MCAs. They want to kick out MCAs so we leave the government to them. If we dissolve the County Assembly and I have those powers the government is out. County Executive led by Malombe should respect the Assembly.”Kinengo added.

It is not clear what has caused the Rift between the executive and the Assembly. A committee of the Assembly is currently holding impeachment hearings of Finance CECM Peter Mwikya Kilonzo.

“If they don’t respect us we will force them to and we are not pleading with anyone.CECMs should stop playing politics. Tuheshimiane.” Kinengo went on.

Kinengo’s remarks were echoed by McAs who had accompanied him to the function.
