Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called for the lifting of a Court of Appeal injunction halting the formation of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) selection panel.
Addressing the media at SKM Command Center, Kalonzo said the injunction challenges the establishment of a selection panel tasked with recruiting new IEBC commissioners.
Kalonzo accused the government of using proxies to deliberately stall the process through legal maneuvers.
“They have wasted a lot of time. Let them withdraw the case that is state-sponsored through a judge in Kiambu. This is a tactic to delay the reconstitution of the panel and the IEBC,” Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo revealed that the ball is in William Ruto’s court to instruct his ‘proxies’ to withdraw the matter in the Court of Appeal.
The process of setting up the nine-member selection panel has also been marred by internal disputes within the Azimio la Umoja coalition, with disagreements between the National Liberal Party (NLP) and Wiper over their nominee. NLP proposed Dr. Augustus Muli, while Wiper fronted Dr. Koki Muli for the position.
